Maruti Suzuki India Limited, previously known as Maruti Udyog Limited, is the Indian branch of Suzuki Motor Corporation, a Japanese car company. In February 1981, the Indian government teamed up with Suzuki as a small partner to create Maruti Udyog Limited. Their first factory opened in Gurugram, Haryana, in 1982. The government stepped back from the partnership in 2003, and in 2007, they sold all their remaining shares to Suzuki Motor Corporation, making it the sole owner. By September 2022, they had the biggest share, 42%, of the Indian market for passenger cars. It plans to introduce its inaugural electric vehicle, the eVX in 2025, via NEXA.
