The Uttar Pradesh Police is the largest single police force in the world, covering an area of approximately 243,286 square kilometers. Under the command of the Director General, there are various specialized wings, including intelligence, investigation, anti-corruption, technical, training, and forensic science. Established in 1860 based on the recommendations of the Police Commission led by Mr. H.M. Court, the current police system operates under the Police Act of 1861. The police structure was initially organized into eight organizations, including the Provincial Police, Government Railway Police, Municipal Police, Cantonment Police, Town Police, Rural and Road Police, Canal Police, and Barkandaj Guard for court protection.
